Pre-treatment for roses

In order to guarantee lasting quality, it is absolutely imperative that the roses are pre-treated after having been harvested, so as to counter the microbiological problems and problems related to a lack of nutrients which can arise during and following distribution. During and after transport, after having been freshly trimmed, all roses should always be placed in water containing a solution which includes not only cut-flower food, but also a component which serves to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms. This ensures that the flowers open fully and also extends the vase life of the roses.

Possible causes of partial flowering

BLOCKED VASCULAR TISSUE AND BACTERIAOne of the most common causes of the blockage of vascular tissue is the growth of micro organisms. Once micro organisms find a favourable environment, they multiply relatively rapidly. This growth can then clog up the woody vascular tissue immediately above the trimmed surface and this can cause the flowers to wilt.

Bacteria and fungi thrive in an unhygienic environment. Dirty showcases, vases, buckets, containers and implements can have a more deleterious effect than many growers, wholesalers, florists and flower arrangers would ever imagine.

Trimming also causes roses to secrete certain substances which can clog up the stems.

The remains of leaves, bacteria and dirt can also form substances which clog up the vascular tissue up to the first intersection.

Bacteria, fungi and yeast can grow on the trimmed surface itself, blocking the vascular tissue.

A good pre-treatment product and a quality cut-flower food form a protective layer around the end of the stem, filtering out the harmful substances in the water. In this way the woody vascular tissue remains open and the flowers are able to develop as they would naturally.

CIRO ROSA EXPORT is a pre-treatment product especially for use at the nursery.

CIRO ROSA EXPORT promotes full flowering and is extremely effective in preventing so-called ‘limp necks’.

CIRO ROSA EXPORT also inhibits the processes which can cause the vascular tissue in the stem to become blocked.

CIRO ROSA EXPORT also helps to neutralize the substances secreted by the stem and counters the soiling of the water by leaf remains and the stems.

CIRO ROSA EXPORT dramatically improves water absorption, which means that the flowers open more fully and the necks of the roses remain upright for longer.

CIRO ROSA EXPORT can be supplied to all auctioning centres affiliated to the V.B.N. This sign of approval is your assurance that the product complies with the strictest standards established jointly by the auctioning centres in the Netherlands.

The active substances in CIRO ROSA EXPORT are ‘Also 4’ (aluminium sulphate plus various additives) which serves to inhibit the growth of bacteria in the water, and anioniongenic wetting agent.

Precision and hygiene during pre-treatment and subsequent treatment are critically important. Dirty water in the grower’s cold storage systems, too long a period in storage, exposure to extreme temperatures during transport and sloppy handling will inevitably mean that the roses reach the consumer in poor condition.

Ciro Products would like to offer you certain tips which will help to ensure that your products leave your nursery in optimal condition.

Always use clean and disinfected implements when trimming roses.

It is also advisable to clean sorting machines, conveyor belts and floor surfaces on a weekly basis,

And don’t forget to also clean the water tanks or harvesting buckets on a daily basis.

In this way you can prevent your products being infected at an early stage in the process.

The active substance in CIRO Protein Remover is a potassium hydroxide / sodium hypochlorite supplemented with tensides and material protectors.
